Serenade for Flute and Guitar

David Rubinstein

9 minutes.

The Serenade consists of five movements:
1. Fanfare
2. Tango
3. Amusette
4. Pastoral
5. Tarantella

Serenade for flute and guitar, composed in 1993, consists of a series of instrumental dances loosely based on the instrumental keyboard suites of Bach and Couperin, with flavors of Rossini and Shostakovich. This is a composition of lyrical charm and humor, with some odd harmonic touches. It was premiered by Duo Trouveres (Chris Piper, flute and David Pircher, guitar) at a benefit concert for the L.A. Philharmonic at Braemar Club, Los Angeles, California in April, 1996.
