Quandary
(Robert Frost)

Because of the Sonny Bono Copyright Extension Act of 1998, the score is not available for purchase until the year 2038, when the text re-enters public domain (unless the copyright is again "recaptured" by the Frost estate).

David Rubinstein

for voice and piano

About 3 minutes.

The dichotomy between good and evil is the subject of this smartly amusing poem of Robert Frost. I composed the music for it in 1989 whan I was setting two of his other poems, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” and “The Rabbit Hunter.” Its jazz influence prevented it from being grouped with the other two songs. “Quandary” was  premiered in L.A. by Ann Reid at a private concert in 1989. It works very well whether sung by a male or female.

Check out the other two Frost settings in this catalog,  Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and The Rabbit Hunter.
