David Rubinstein’s
music has been presented by the National Association of Composers
USA (NACUSA), Pacific Composers Forum, and at the Pacific Contemporary
Music Center, among others. Awards he has received include Recognition
of Excellence at the Diana Barnhart American Song Composers Competition
(2000) and the 2000 Ojai Festival/Gould Foundation Award for Timepieces
for Salvador Dali. He has scored films for Columbia College,
The American Film Institute, USC and UCLA, including the award-winning
Prisoner of Silence. His Sonatina
for Woodwinds was featured on the Bakersfield Symphony New Directions
Concerts in February 2002. Recently completed works include
Chopsticks Variations for piano and orchestra and
Cappuccino Concertino, (a spoof of the Bach
"Coffee Cantata"), which was premiered at the Church of the Lighted
Window in La Cañada, California. David Rubinstein
has given frequent performances of his own piano works, including
Curious Assortment and Piano Music for Two
Fingers. His Toccata was commissioned
by the the Renée B. Fisher Foundation for their 2003 Piano
Competition. Additional performances include the choral work
Machaut, performed in 2004 by the Cal State New
Music Vocal Ensemble and One-Note Concerto
for piano and orchestra, premiered by the Hartford Symphony in May 2006.
In addition to his composing, David Rubinstein is active as
a concert pianist, performing works from the standard repertoire as well
